WHO WE LIKE: SEBASTIAN HERKNER

Sebastian Herkner, no longer a newcomer, is currently one of the hottest designers in the interior industry. He not only designs furniture, lights and accessories, but also creates complete exhibitions, trade fair appearances and interior concepts. He works with equally creative and renowned manufacturers such as Classicon, Pulpo, Thonet and Moroso - brands that we also love and are happy to include in our projects.

In addition to his studies at the HFG and an internship at Stella McCartney, he was already working in his own studio in nearby Offenbach. His popular “Bell Table” for Classicon was also created there, which was not least the impetus for his flourishing career and to which he also owed the Red Dot Design Prize. The customer base expanded and further prizes were not long in coming. In 2016, for example, he was able to boast of being a guest of honor at IMM Cologne with his trade fair concept “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage”, in 2019 he was crowned Designer of the Year at Maison & Objet and just this year he won the German Design Award.

Inspired by his numerous cultural travels to distant countries, he reinterprets traditional craftsmanship through contemporary production methods. In his limitless designs and product variety, he transforms impressions from countries and continents such as Africa, Japan or the cultural diversity of his Offenbach studio into lively, elegant and often colorful works of art of the interior world.

ECRIN LIDDED VESSEL

In our online store division Limited we currently have a particularly beautiful accessory highlight from NUDE!

A limited number of hand-signed pieces by Sebastian himself!

Ecrin // Sebastian Herkner x NUDE

Designed by him as part of NUDE's Ecrin collection, this crystal glass container features a completely transparent profile that shows the high quality of NUDE's impeccable craftsmanship. The shape of the colored cast lid is based on the earth pyramids of Ritten - an impressive natural monument in South Tyrol.

"Actually this collection is inspired by the Earth Pyramids of Ritten, a very unique formation of the local landscape. The idea of balancing a round stone on the top of another volume was fascinating me to design Ecrin, a collection of containers in three sizes with a stone like lid on top. These lids are smooth like river stones blown or soap bubble in colored glass. In contrast to the organic shape, the container is a stable and straight cylinder. It is a composition of volumes, colors and space in glass . The important thickness of the glass creates a distance between the objects inside and the outside/the viewer, like a protection. The glass bubble elegantly closes the box by lying on."
